ACUPUNCTURE AND FERTILITY
The positive effect that acupuncture has on fertility is not particularly mysterious. Chinese medicine is a science that uses tiny needles to stimulate the body’s natural resources. The channel system, very similar to the vascular and runs throughout the body, can be stimulated to rebalance the body’s chemistry, nervous system and fluids when it has been disrupted by trauma, stress or other injury, even congenital imbalances.
Studies show that acupuncture:
- Increases blood flow to the targeted area
- Has an impact on the autonomic nervous system
- Increases endorphin levels in the blood stream
More specifically for fertility, acupuncture studies reveal:
- Increased pregnancy rates (Acup and ART)
Acupuncture is a proven treatment to reduce symptoms related to difficult conception, such as anxiety, insomnia, stomach disorders, premenstrual symptoms, headaches, back, neck and shoulder pain and tension.
Stress hormones, for the purpose of survival, have priority over reproductive hormones. We need a balance of both.
Cortisol and adrenaline, the stress hormones, surge when there is perceived danger. Cortisol curbs functions that would be nonessential or detrimental in a fight-or-flight situation. It alters immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system and growth processes. The chronic, stressful state that difficult conception creates keeps the stress hormones elevated and interferes with reproductive hormones. Acupuncture helps to rebalance and normalize these hormone levels.
Whether you have chosen medical intervention, prefer a holistic approach or want to combine both, increase your probability of a successful pregnancy with acupuncture.

Fall 2012 Participant:
This workshop is much more than a support group. It’s like taking a “master class” on how to guide your mind and intentions toward a healthier relationship to yourself and the world. There is active practice and also accountability for trying new ways of thinking and meditating. I had already done extensive acupuncture; with Lisa, I learned what I should have been doing, internally, the other six days of the week. I was suffering from anxiety, and now I am comfortable transforming that energy into something less toxic. Each student in the course had moments of revelation from small to major, and everyone gained skills and positive feelings about moving ahead with their life plans. If there is one thing that I could emphasize the most about this class, it was the feeling of positive empowerment that every person felt after 8 weeks. We were collectively energized by our readings and discussions. TH
